PRCA Expert Briefing: Blogger Relations

As well as discussing how digital can be used within a wider communications strategy (found here), Kerry Gaffney also gave some useful hints and tips on how to build positive blogger relations at last month’s PRCA Expert Briefing event.

Blogger Relations

  • Target relevant blogs only – read it and know it before pitching to it
  • Blogging is largely a vanity press (thank you very much), so when approaching bloggers it is important to add value in order to make it worth their while
  • Be polite/don’t hassle
  • Be aware that bloggers are getting smarter (thank you very much)
  • To separate the good blogs from the bad, take a look at the number of comments (army of commenters = good), how regularly they post (regular = good), their page rank (Google lets you do this), and the number of in-links (more = better), as a guide.

Alternatively, actually follow their blogs and learn for yourself which ones evoke and generate the most conversations. It’s good to talk, and fun too.
